Autumn Half-Term in Tangier: A Sunny October Getaway

Tangier in late October: mild weather, nature between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, things to do and practical tips for a great autumn break.

Published on November 4, 2026

By late October, the skies are turning grey across France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Just a few hours away by plane, Tangier often enjoys brighter light and pleasant temperatures. For a short but memorable autumn half-term break, the city on the Strait ticks a lot of boxes: sunshine, sea, the medina and nature right on your doorstep.

Here's how to make the most of Tangier in autumn, whether you're travelling as a family, as a couple or with friends.

Why choose Tangier for the autumn half-term?

The autumn school holidays (All Saints' break or half-term) usually fall between late October and early November. Exact dates vary from country to country and, in the Netherlands, from region to region. So check your school calendar before booking.

Tangier has plenty going for it at this time of year:

  • Mild weather: summer is over, the heat has eased, and days are usually pleasant for walking or getting out on the road.
  • A less crowded city than in peak summer, which makes sightseeing more relaxed.
  • A destination close to Europe, ideal for a stay of just a few days.
  • Two seas in one place: the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet at the Strait of Gibraltar.

Bear in mind, though, that autumn can also bring wind and the odd shower. Nothing dramatic, but a light jacket and a jumper for the evenings will come in handy.

Tangier weather in autumn: what to expect

Tangier's climate is moderated by the sea. In autumn, days are generally mild and evenings cooler. The wind, typical of the Strait, can pick up on some days.

A few tips for packing your suitcase:

  • Layers: T-shirt, light jumper, windbreaker.
  • Comfortable shoes for the medina, with its narrow lanes and steps.
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen: the sun is still out.
  • Swimwear, if you love the sea. The water is starting to cool down, but some people still swim.

One more thing: the days are getting shorter. For outdoor activities, go for the morning or early afternoon to make the most of the daylight.

Must-sees in Tangier during the holidays

Tangier is easy to explore on foot, at least its historic centre. A few ideas for your first days:

  • The medina and the kasbah: white alleyways, colourful doors and views over the port and the Strait.
  • The Grand Socco and the Petit Socco: the lively heart of the city, perfect for a mint tea on a terrace.
  • The corniche: a seafront promenade along the bay, lovely in the late afternoon.
  • The Marshan and Merkala neighbourhoods: quieter, with beautiful sea views.

Take time to sample the local food: tagines, grilled fish, pastries. Autumn is perfect for long, leisurely food stops.

Nature: forests, cliffs and beaches

This is often the biggest surprise for visitors. Just a few kilometres from the centre, the landscape changes completely.

Cap Spartel marks the north-western tip of Africa, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. The site offers spectacular ocean views.

Rmilat Forest and Mediouna Forest offer pine trees, shade and a soothing atmosphere. They're ideal for an outing away from the bustle of the city.

Haouara Beach, on the Atlantic side, offers wide open spaces and a wild feel, even more enjoyable out of season.

To link these places in a single trip, a buggy is a fun option. Our Cap Spartel route lasts 1h30 over 38 km: it runs along the corniche and through Merkala, crosses Rmilat Forest and reaches the cape. Intermediate level.

If you're after a real adventure, the Plage et forĂȘts (Beach and Forests) tour is our most complete circuit: 2h30, 56 km, difficult level. It starts from the Tangier corniche, crosses the forest, offers a panoramic view of the Strait and reaches Haouara Beach.

A buggy ride over half-term: practical info

Autumn is a great season to ride: less heat, green landscapes after the first rains and lovely light. All our tours are in Can-Am buggies, with a guide.

What you need to know:

  • Four routes: from the Buggy tour Tanger (45 min, 20 km, easy) to Plage et forĂȘts (2h30, 56 km, difficult).
  • Drive or ride as a passenger: you can drive yourself (price per buggy, for 1 or 2 people) or let our driver take the wheel.
  • Times: departures every day, from 09:00 to 19:00. In autumn, a morning or early-afternoon slot lets you make the most of the daylight.
  • Booking: a 200 DH deposit secures your slot, with the balance paid on site.
  • Security deposit: 5,000 DH per self-driven buggy, returned after the ride. No deposit for passengers.
  • Cancellation: please give at least 48 hours' notice.

Demand rises during the school holidays. Booking a few days ahead helps you avoid disappointment.

Sample itinerary for a few days

For inspiration, here's an idea for a well-balanced stay:

  • Day 1: arrival, stroll along the corniche, dinner in town.
  • Day 2: medina, kasbah and Petit Socco, with a tea break.
  • Day 3: a morning in nature, between the forests and Cap Spartel, then a relaxed afternoon.
  • Day 4: Haouara Beach or a trip around the region, depending on the weather.
  • Day 5: last-minute shopping in the souk and departure.

Stay flexible: if it's very windy one day, simply swap your city and nature days.

In a nutshell

Tangier over the autumn half-term offers a great balance of mild weather, a change of scenery and easy access. You can explore the city without the summer crowds, and the surrounding nature is at its best. Between the medina, the forests and the cliffs of Cap Spartel, you'll come home with your head full of memories.
